Aspen Institute leading in tackling US fraud and scams

As 2025 comes to a close, in terms of addressing consumer scams, the US under the leadership from its Aspen Institute and high-profile banks such as JPMorgan Chase and strong advocacy organizations like AARP, is showing determination to carry forward next year with implementation of recommendations in its country’s first national strategy to prevent fraud and scams.

During International Fraud Awareness Week in November, JPMorgan Chase announced its most ambitious fraud prevention strategy ever to tackle scams (e.g., introducing Trusted Contact Person program to stop consumer scams) and they are actively supporting Aspen Institute’s taskc force on a major nation-wide collaborative undertaking to confront and defeat fraud.

You can access the recommendations below and see for yourself considerable effort has already gone into taking consumer fraud seriously with the full intention of making progress on reducing the significant financial losses Americans are incurring from being victims of targeted scams.

Here is hoping 2026 will translate into action that truly makes a difference to delivering better outcomes on this issue of siginificant national importance.

Developing a National Strategy to Prevent Fraud and Scams

In October, we announced our recommendations for the nation’s first-ever strategy to prevent fraud and scams. The report, United We Stand: A National Strategy to Prevent Scams, culminates the deep, cross-sector collaboration of the National Task Force on Fraud and Scam Prevention. Through the support of founding sponsor JPMorganChase and other funders, the Task Force brought together more than 80 organizations and over 300 experts under three shared goals: enhance national security, protect consumers, and build resilience against scammers.

More than 500 people attended the strategy launch event, illustrating the wide network of leaders ready to lend their firepower to stopping scams. We’ll need this broad coalition: In 2026, our team is turning its efforts to helping implement the recommendations for a whole-of-ecosystem approach, working with the federal government, law enforcement, nonprofits, and the private sector to protect Americans from fraud and scams.
